How many sites do I have in the Site Collection?

I bet you wanna know. As your SharePoint Intranet grows by leaps and bounds, you want to be in control and know how many sites/subsites you have in your environment. For those of us who are in SharePoint Online (Office 365) – you are in luck, as there is an easy out of the box way to obtain this information.

How to obtain site count via SharePoint Admin Center

The easiest way to learn how many sites you have in a site collection is by going to SharePoint Admin Center. You need to have either Global Office 365 Admin user role or SharePoint Administrator user role to be able to do this.

1. Navigate to the SharePoint Admin Center
2. In the site collections list, click on the site collection you want to get a site count on
3. In the popup, you will get a summary information for that site collection along with the number of sites. Please note that the number of sites is the total number of sites at all levels of the site collection, including the root (homepage) as well.

The above image shows that I have 15 subsites in my site collection. Actually, I have 14 subsites + 1 top level site, which makes it 15 in total. By the way, as of the writing of this post, the limit to the number of sites in a site collection is 250,000 sites. So I am probably going to be OK for a while…
